|CCL Welcomes New Director|
Cumberland County Library has hired a new Library Director, Susanne Sacchetti, who began her duties on April 10th.
Sacchetti, who received her Bachelor of Arts in Literature from Stockton University and her Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Drexel University, has extensive experience in the education and library fields. Sacchetti went through the Alternate Route Program for her training as a teacher. She first entered the library profession in 2002, as an Associate School Media Specialist in Galloway Township, where she divided her time between the district’s four smaller schools; then, she was an Associate School Media Specialist for the Hess School in Hamilton Township.
As well as working with elementary-aged students, Sacchetti also has experience at the college level, working in both the physical and virtual environments. She worked as a Library Specialist and then as Reference Librarian for the Atlantic Cape Community College. Sacchetti set up the Information Commons at the Cape May County Campus and was the campus’s first librarian when it opened its doors in 2005. Additionally, Sacchetti was an Online Librarian for the American Public University System and spent five years as an Adjunct Instructor for Drexel University’s iSchool, teaching graduate students in online sections of their Children’s Resources and Information Resources courses.
Most recently, Sacchetti was the Library Director of the Deptford Free Public Library in Gloucester County. Sacchetti implemented Friday Fun Days, which is a popular free one-hour-long event, held every Friday in July and August, and the library’s Double Check Program, a partnership with local businesses that offered incentives or discounts to customers who showed their library cards. Through business partnerships and community outreach, she was able to expand the library’s programming and increase its visibility in the community.
Likewise, as the Library Director of the Cumberland County Library, Sacchetti hopes to expand the library’s programming and services to the community and increase its presence in the community as well. She is currently reviewing the library’s programming and services and looking to see how the library can enhance and better support the needs of the community.
“We’re in a time of transition,” Sacchetti states, “I want to get a full scope of the picture...see what we have done successfully and build upon what meets the needs of our changing community. I’m honored and excited to serve as the Library Director of the Cumberland County Library. I look forward to working with the library’s exceptional staff and Commission, along with the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders.”
Sacchetti feels that, in these very challenging economic times, the library is an extremely important community resource. The Cumberland County Library offers a wide-range of print and electronic resources, services and programs for ALL county residents. Through one of the state’s Career Connections Grants, the Cumberland County Library provides two librarians dedicated to assisting those who are seeking employment assistance. Susanne Sacchetti welcomes everyone to come explore all that the Cumberland County Library has to offer.
